Cursed Black Swan Spotlight~Top 5

Cursed Black Swan
A Fixer Novel
By- Ryan T. McFadden
Genre- Fantasy/Dark Fantasy
Published By- Dragon Moon Press
Publication Date-October 30th

"Let's get one thing straight—I'm a fixer. You need someone murdered? Then hire an assassin. You need something stolen? Call a thief. But if there's something no one else can do, or a job that no one else wants, then you talk to me."
Nathaniel specializes in the strange, the weird, and the dangerous. But no matter how far he runs, he can't leave behind his bloody past, nor the ghosts that chase him.
His latest job was supposed to be simple—recover the sword Black Swan. Except there's no such thing as a simple job. When the operation goes bad, the Crucifiers, the Crooked Hand, assassins, and Crusaders are all hot on Nathaniel's trail...for a sword he doesn't even have. All he has to do to get it back and set his world right is to find the woman of his dreams...and kill her.

isn’t my list of most influential writers (the easy choices like Edgar Allan Poe, Mary Shelley, J.R.R. Tolkien) but those that are (mostly) active and I will search out. The ones that I’d be all gaga if I met them.

Robert R. McCammon – When I first discovered his books, I think I was 16. They were a perfect mix of adventure, violence, humor, and awesomeness. Start with the Wolf’s Hour (a secret agent that’s a werewolf – a werewolf!), move to Swan Song (like the Stand, but more fantastical, and with a much better ending), then for something completely different (but so awesomely clever) Usher’s Passing (about the descendants of Usher from Edgar Allan Poe’s The Fall of the House of Usher).

Elmore Leonard – actually started reading him because of my grandfather…because Elmore Leonard began as a Western writer, then moved to crime writing. But you can see how they’re very closely related. Dialogue carries the stories (sparse description) and the characterization. They’re short books but with crazy plots as every character’s motivation conflicts with every other character’s motivations.

Joe Hill. When I first heard that Stephen King’s son was winning all these awards but had done it without using the last name, I rolled my eyes and KNEW that he had 100% used his famous surname to make a name for himself. Until I read his work. He wrote a short story called Pop Art about a blow up doll. Yes, a blow up doll who goes to school, has friends, has a family – but is a blow up doll. By the end, I shed a tear. HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE? I think Horns is one of the most powerful novels I’ve ever read.

Joe Abercrombie For those that think Game of Thrones is a little too upbeat. Joe Abercrombie writes grimdark, with deeply flawed characters that attempt to be better people, but usually fail miserably.

Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child Experts of the thriller, plus one of the most unique, interesting characters ever: Aloysius Pendergast, an investigator born to a family that routinely becomes criminally insane. He  is a deep genius in anthropology and will often solve crimes based on his obscure knowledge of dressing making or other historical fact. There was one book: Wheel of Darkness, that takes place aboard a cruise ship. Of course, as readers, we know that by the end the cruise ship will be heading for a waterfall with the bridge nonresponsive, characters hanging by their fingertips, and the literally the world ending. We know all that and it’s still a crazy ride.
