N.J. Walters

Pride of the Lion
by
N.J. Walters

I'm So excited to have N.J. Walters on my blog! When I first got on Facebook I was searching around and found the sweetest woman talking about some yummy books so I of course  I had to scoop one up! I of course fell in love with her books and her. She is one of the sweetest woman I have ever spoken too!!

Once upon a time, a writer woke up in the middle of her own book…

Hades’ Carnival, Book 3
Araminta Davidson has arrived. After giving up her librarian job to be a full-time writer, all those lonely nights alone with her cat and her keyboard have paid off. She’s been invited to participate in one of the biggest reader appreciation weekends—as a professional author.
She can’t imagine her life getting any more exciting than that…until she accidentally releases a sexy, shapeshifting, immortal warrior from a five-thousand-year-old curse.
Finally free of his carousel prison, lion shifter Leander is determined not to let Hades lure him to the dark side in a quest for world domination. Nor will he give the delectable Araminta up to the clutches of the dark one. If they can survive twenty-four hours—and somehow resist losing themselves completely in the sexual haze threatening to swallow them up—the curse will be permanently broken.
But the clock is ticking, the heat is rising…and only the ultimate sacrifice will save them both.

About the Author
N.J. has always been a voracious reader, and now she spends her days writing novels of her own. Vampires, werewolves, dragons, time-travelers, seductive handymen, and next-door neighbors with smoldering good looks—all vie for her attention. It’s a tough life, but someone’s got to live it.

Interview
When did you know you wanted to be a writer?
I wrote bad poetry as a teenager, but I didn’t do much in the way of serious writing until I was in my early thirties. I wrote two books, tried to sell them and then put them away when they were rejected several times. Then I saw a contest online years later and decided to try my hand at writing again. I didn’t place in the contest, but I finished the story and submitted it to a publisher. Ellora’s Cave published Annabelle Lee in October 2004 just before my 40th birthday.

Describe your books in 3 words?
Heat with heart!

Do you have a process?
For me the characters come first. I have to know who they are before I can begin to write a book. I am more of a pantser than a plotter, but I will jot down ideas about the storyline before I start if anything occurs to me. Once I have the opening scene in my head I’ll start writing.

I write best early in the morning before my brain gets cluttered with everyday life. I also need quiet when I work. Can’t write with music playing like many authors can. I don’t edit as I go, but write the rough draft from start to finish. Then I’ll do the real work of turning the story into something special.

Who or What is your inspiration?
I feel grateful every single day that I get to make a living doing something I love. Reading great authors and wonderful books inspires me. Getting emails from readers telling me how much they enjoyed my books inspires me. I feel very blessed and extremely lucky.

What will you be working on next?
Right now, I’m working on a book for my new werewolf paranormal series for Samhain Publishing. Book one has been contracted but there’s no release date yet. Love writing paranormals. J

What's your favorite genre to write?
What I love best about romance is there are so many sub-genres. Romance readers are the best in the world and are very open to new writers and genres. I’ve been lucky that readers have followed me as I’ve written contemporary, western, futuristic, paranormal, vampires, werewolves, ménage a trois and even a historical. I admit that my favorites to write are paranormal and contemporary. I always come back to those two genres.

Favorite paranormal read?
Impossible to pick just one, but my latest favorite has to be Shelley Laurenston’s Pride series.

Favorite Romance read?
This is tough. I honestly can’t pick one. Every time I choose one I think of another favorite.

Favorite Author?
If I have to pick one it would be Jayne Ann Krentz. It was her books that got me hooked on reading romance. I’d read mostly fiction and historical fiction in my early twenties. Then I discovered Seduction by Amanda Quick (one of her pen names) and I was hooked. Then I discovered she wrote for Silhouette Romance and Harlequin Temptation and I couldn’t get enough.

Person you would like to meet most in this world?
The Dalai Lama. He would be such a fascinating man to sit and listen to.

What is one thing that would surprise us to know about you?
I don’t own a microwave and have never owned one.
Holy freaking smokes really???

If you could be any character from one of your books who would it be?
Hmmm...I think I’d be Katya Markova from Endless Chase. She is one kick-ass lady.
