Blurb-
Palta learned long ago not to expect a “normal” life.  She’d settle for one free of close encounters with supernaturally-gifted homicidal maniacs.
Apparently that’s too much to ask.
Join your favorite Onontian royal family, as they settle into life at the palace...only don’t get too comfortable, because things are about to take a hair-raising turn.
Vitality is the gripping third installment in the Proximity series.

Excerpt
It was one of the most memorable days I’ve ever spent with my father.  We spent the day out on the high terrace that overlooked the ocean, soaking up the warm breeze and scent of spring blooms, surrounded by massive planters overflowing with colorful blossoms.  The two soaring turrets that towered above us cast their long shadows across the ground, slowly sweeping over the terrace as the hours passed.
With the assistance of two of the palace staff members, Father had retrieved a great pile of books from the palace library, spreading them out atop one of the round carved stone tables.
“Books?” I looked on with curiosity.  “We need books?”
“You needed books to learn your first sentences…to study mathematics, biology, history…You pored over them for days on end in your medical training.  Now you seek to develop the power of mind control so proficiently as to thwart the most skillful master in the solar system…and suddenly, you’re surprised you need books?”  Father gave me his incomparable look of subdued sarcasm.
“Touché,” I bowed my head with a mock tip of my hat.  “Consult the books.”
“This,” Father pointed to an open page, its print seemingly larger than normal, “is where we begin…Moriñeca’s First Principles of Identification, Comprehension, and Conveyance.”
“That’s quite a title there,” I raised my eyebrows, “but the oversized print makes it look like a children’s book.”
“That’s because it is,” Father nodded innocently.
“Seriously?” I blinked in stunned disbelief.  “Tell me you’re joking.”
He kept up his unflinchingly straight face.
“You’re not joking…”  My mouth fell open.  “You seriously think I’m on a first grade level?...Thanks for the vote of confidence there, Father.”
“Onontian power development begins at a very early age, Paltafoena,” he tried to appease me.  “It’s a fundamental educational experience…one you shouldn’t have been deprived of.”  His voice wavered momentarily, and he covered it by clearing his throat.  “Now please don’t deprive me of the opportunity to make it up to you.”
“Yes, Father,” I nodded contritely.  “Proceed with the first reader…”  I flopped down into the chair, eyeing the stacks of books piled before me.  “Does that one at least have pictures?” I teased.  “I may not be able to keep up without pictures.”
Father peered over the top of his reading glasses as he thumbed through the pages, “It does have some rather informative illustrations…If you’re not too full of sass to pay attention to them.”
“I can be full of sass and pay attention at the same time,” I smiled with a mischievous wink.  “Bring on the knowledge.”
“You can read Onontian now, correct?” he double-checked with all seriousness.
“Gee whiz, Father…”  My exasperated sigh blew the stray strands of hair off my forehead.  “Yes,” I enunciated slowly.  “I think I can manage to interpret all three sentences on that page.”  I plucked the book from his hands.
“Well, that’s quite an accomplishment in so little time, my dear.”  He fought back a smirk.  “Onontian is quite a complicated language.”
“You’re telling me,” I grumbled.  “Don’t even get me started on the whole colloquial tense thing…”
Father nodded in acquiescence, as I began perusing the pages.  I cleared my throat to read aloud; and from the corner of my eye I saw him smile, as he began searching the tabletop stacked high with books, fishing out our next lesson.
