Audrey has no idea about Max’s double identity and worries she won’t be able to walk away from their fiery attraction to help the underground.

Ann Gimpel is a clinical psychologist, with a Jungian bent. Avocations include mountaineering, skiing, wilderness photography and, of course, writing. A lifelong aficionado of the unusual, she began writing speculative fiction a few years ago. Since then her short fiction has appeared in a number of webzines and anthologies. Favorite Lines “You’ve taken the worst day of my life and turned it into something”

 “I understand why they’d be suspicious—of everything. For Christ’s sake, they went into hiding and then watched as things went from bad to worse. They have to blame someone.”

 “I could never do that. I’m falling in love with you.” “I know I’m falling in love with you.” He smiled, and her heart took wing. “But it’s far more than that, Audrey darling.” He bent close and whispered, “If our wolves are right, you’re my mated one.” He kissed her forehead tenderly. “All I know is I’ve never felt such an intense attraction for anyone.”

 “Audrey’s wolf and I discussed it. In the end, we decided it would be best to stay out of things unless we absolutely had to intervene. We couldn’t imagine a mated pair walking away from one another.”

 “You’re a mated man now. Better learn the meaning of compromise.” “Isn’t that when no one gets what they wanted?”

 “We’re still at war for our very survival. But I’d rather have even a short time with you than be by myself forever. I feel our mate bond.” She tapped her breastbone. “It burns like a beacon inside me, so bright you probably could have found us that way.”

 

Have I said how much I love a oh so SEXY wolf love story! This once was all that and more. It made me blush, laugh, and want to knock the crap out of some stubborn old shifters!

Audrey lives in a world were if you have more the 50% of shifter blood you are hunted down and killed. So those shifters who survived have gone underground. Audrey only has 35% but she dreams of her wolf every night and wants to connect with her so bad. She wants to take the serum from the black market that could bring her wolf to her fully. She wants to help the underground shifters. There's only one thing she will regret by doing that and that's Max her boss who she has loved since she first started working for him. She must do it though. She goes and gets the first injection and then her world is turned right side up. Max kisses her! Can she survive leaving him since he's human and a governor. He would never want her if he knew she had shifter blood. 

But, what she doesn't know is....

Max leads a double life. He's governor of California and he runs the underground network of shifters who are in hiding. He's a Russian wolf who wants to turn the tide on this crazy world he now lives in. When an attempt is made on his life and Audrey is with him, it brings out his wolf and his wolf wants to protect their MATE! Oh yeah baby mate!

The story was a interesting one, that had some great futuristic technology. I enjoyed the things the author came up with for the future. The explosive way the Max and Audrey come together is sexy, sweet, and so loving! This was my first time reading this author and I have already looked up more of her work and can't wait to read it.

If you want a sexy shifter story that has some things you haven't read about before then this is for you!
