Undercover Magic Spotlight~Review~Giveaway

Undercover Magic
by Judy Teel

BLURB:
In a dystopian future where paranormal creatures have assimilated into human society, a young woman fights to expose the mastermind behind an illegal drug only to discover that to stop him, she must risk losing everything – including her humanity.

Abandoned at birth, Addison Kittner's been on her own since she was a kid--ever since the paranormal terrorists attacked cities around the world. Battling creatures that go bump in the night nearly destroyed human society. Good thing not all paranormals were evil and the terrorists were eventually stopped. Bad thing? Nothing would ever be the same again.

For one, highly addictive drugs can be made from vampire venom now that the truth is out. Add in a little magic and the drug becomes irresistible. Addison's partner and on-the-sly boyfriend, werewolf FBI agent Cooper Daine, has been trying to find out who's behind this new threat to humanity. But when he gets too close to the truth, he finds himself falsely accused of taking bribes from the very drug cartel he hunts.

Addison knows he's innocent, but the FBI have other ideas and suddenly she finds herself in their sights. When they come knocking on her door and decide breaking it down is more effective, she does what any smart ex-street kid would, she runs. Next thing she knows, someone's trying to assassinate Cooper, Lord Bellmonte is threatening to hurt her friends if she doesn't find out who's making the drug, and talented kid practitioners are disappearing from their school without a trace.

As the lies pile up, one thing becomes clear--the mastermind behind the drugs is someone more powerful and evil than anything she's ever come up against. Addison doesn't stand a chance of winning. Not without giving up the one thing she treasures most--

Her humanity.

After placing the PRC next to my gun, Bellmonte casually poured two glasses of wine.

He offered me one and I shook my head no. I had a policy never to consume anything from someone I didn't trust completely. Shrugging, he set the glass meant for me on the bar and sipped delicately from his own.

"Why am I here?" I asked.

"To my distress, my place of business was raided by the FBI today while I slept. Admirably sneaky, but unacceptable nevertheless. I nearly became cranky when I learned of it." He took another sip. "I would very much appreciate some clarity around this event. For example, did Agent Daine give this order?"

"How should I know? The tail I had on him ran off to Vegas and got married."

"A lie is not an answer."

I ground my teeth. "No, he didn't. He'd have no reason to."

Bellmonte nodded and returned to savoring his wine. I waited, determined not to be the first one to cave. Who was I kidding? I hated waiting.

"What the hell do you want, Bellmonte?"

He narrowed his gaze at me and I felt a flicker of fear. Anger that he could so easily inspire terror quickly burned the feeling away.

"I do beg your pardon, Lord Your Highness Bellmonte. How may I serve you?" I asked, emphasis on the sarcasm.

Bellmone admired the color of the wine in his glass. "I remember a time when 1744 port was little more than grape juice. Nineteen ninety-seven sounds so ridiculously young." He shrugged, finished his drink and placed the glass on the bar.

Between one blink and the next, he had me pinned against the wall, his hand on my throat.

I live in North Carolina with my boisterous family--husband, three kids, a dog and a geriatric bunny--and yup, I'm Southern so occasionally I let a "y'all" slip out. Maybe more than occasionally.

I love my job and dedicate as much of my time to writing as I can. When I'm not doing the weaving of the adventurous and romantic tales, I'm running errands, driving people around (or crazy depending on your perspective), cooking, and generally keeping everyone organized.

Tea is a favorite obsession of mine. I also like jazz and swing music, musicals, plays, movies of all kinds, Vampire Diaries, Star Trek, Downton Abbey, as well as camping, vacations, and reading great books.

Life rocks—so should the books you read!

Favorite Lines “I wondered when my tendency to take risks would finally use up all my luck.
I had a feeling that day might be sooner than I liked.”

“Only fools and heroes faced down a Regent in his lair after dark. Guess which one I was?
I'll give you a hint.”

“Love and the grim specter of murder didn't seem like concepts that would enjoy spending time together in a person's psyche. I couldn't have been more wrong”

“You're going to kiss me, aren't you?" I accused, staring up into eyes the color of a moonlit meadow.
"I am. You won't shoot me will you?" He bent his head toward me, moving with slow deliberation.
"I might,”

“I don't think I'd like my life as much without you in it,”

Man I loved this book! This heroine is kick booty! She takes nothing from no one! Reading about Addie take on Lord Bellmonte was epic! She doesn't like to be pushed around or told what to do. When a vampire that she got I to a fight with ends up dead she's the prime suspect and she is forced to work with the OMG OMG drool worthy Connor! Connor is FBI and he wants Addie. Connor and Addie end up going head to head with a god who tells Addie's she's family! Does Connor care? Nope! Love him!
Those two together make a spectacular team and I'm dying to read book 2! I'm so glad I signed up for this book and discovered a exceptional author! I look forward to what comes next and will recommend this series to all lovers of action packed paranormal reads!

Favorite Lines “Only the joy of your smile could incapacitate me again, Miss Kittner.”

“We stay alive and hope Addison's determination leads her to pay dirt.”

“You can't delay your destiny forever. You have to face the truth." He looked at me, his gaze impenetrable and strangely familiar. "Before it destroys you."
What a bunch of cow poop. I'd had enough. "Truth doesn't destroy. It frees.”

“I love you, Addie," he said, his silver-green gaze dancing with happiness. My stomach plummeted with surprise and then a full, sparkling joy burst into my chest. "You better.
You're stuck with me”

“Wherever he and my friends were was where I belonged. I didn't need anything else.”

Oh thank goodness! I was hoping and praying for Addie but I thought her stubbornness would stop her from knowing happiness! Yep not gonna tell you what I'm talking about though sorry.
In this book Connor is accused of taking bribes from drug dealers. So of course the FBI thinks Addie knows something about it and guess who else is in the mix? Lord Bellmonte! He ropes Addie into doing his dirty work again! That vampire is sneaky and always up to something and I fear that before this series is over he's going to cause many more problems.  This author is amazing. She sucks you into her world effortlessly and I don't want to go!
I love the Charchters, the story, and the action!!
Can't wait for what comes next!
