No
matter how much the paranormal politics of Atlanta change, one thing always
remains the same: if there’s trouble, Kate Daniels will be in the middle of it…
As
the mate of the Beast Lord, Curran, former mercenary Kate Daniels has more
responsibilities than it seems possible to juggle. Not only is she still
struggling to keep her investigative business afloat, she must now deal with
the affairs of the pack, including preparing her people for attack from Roland,
a cruel ancient being with god-like powers. Since Kate’s connection to Roland
has come out into the open, no one is safe—especially those closest to Kate.
As
Roland’s long shadow looms ever nearer, Kate is called to attend the Conclave,
a gathering of the leaders from the various supernatural factions in Atlanta.
When one of the Masters of the Dead is found murdered there, apparently at the
hands of a shapeshifter, Kate is given only twenty-four hours to hunt down the
killer. And this time, if she fails, she’ll find herself embroiled in a war
which could destroy everything she holds dear…

Lines “Freedom is everything to us. We won’t be slaves.”
“If
you’re too scared to try, just say you’re scared, Hugh."
“I
love you,” I told him. There. Nice and simple. “I knew you would find me.”
He
smiled at me. “I would never stop looking.”
“She
recognized me. She knew who I was. It was as if I were the grandchild of a
devastating hurricane or an insane monster that had crushed and destroyed for
so long, it no longer remembered how to nurture its young, but it still
recognized its own blood and it tried to be gentle and to keep its own wrath
from destroying me.”
“Your
sword is made out of your grandmother’s bones?”
“Okay,
I see how it sounds weird when you say it in that tone of voice . . .”
“I
don’t know how bad the future will be, but I promise you, we’ll deal with it.
You and I. Together.”
“Tell
him that if he ever loved my mother, he will understand,”
“Well,
he took it worse than I did,” Curran said.
“I
don’t see what the big deal is.”
“It’s
a sword made out of your grandmother’s bones, Kate.”
“Hey,
I warned you from the start it would be weird. I sat in that bathtub with you
and told you that this was a really bad idea. You said you loved me and stayed
in the tub. As far as I’m concerned, you’ve made your bed. You have to lie in
it.”
“Go
in, get them, kill anything that gets in the way. You are coming out alive. I
promise you that.”
“Death
is forever. Death is nothing. But to save a life, that’s everything. My mother
understood this and now I finally did, too.”
“Decided
to do some claiming of your own?”
“Yes.”
His eyes shone with gold. “Mine.”
“There
is no shame in being killed by one of your own bloodline.”
“Death
should have a terrible beauty to it, don’t you think?”
“Stay
with me,” he said.
“Always,”
I told him.”
Oh
yes I went CRAZY with favorite lines there were just so many to choose
from!
Whew....
When Kate and Curran do something the do it big! Hugh is in Atlanta and coming
after Kate through the pack! Kate and Curran are tag ringer than ever in this
book. I loved reading this one.
When
the pack faces off against Hugh and The People, Hugh of course cheats when they
find away around his way to start a war. He kidnaps Kate and Ghastak happens to
get sucked into the spell.
Curran
being the oh so sexy beast lord that he is finds her. She can't believe
he's there or where they found her at! She's were her father is!
Roland
was a pleasant shock don't get me wrong I know he would snap the world in 2 if
he got mad enough, I am just shocked at the way he handled Kate and
Curran.
When
I started this I was sad because I thought I was it was the last book in the
series but it's not! Woot woot!
The
ending is SPECTACULAR. I LOVE THIS AUTHOR, SERIES, STORYLINE, AND THESE FANTABULOUS
CHARCHTERS!!!
I
was given this book in exchange for an honest review (Penquin)
