Killing Vampires? Easy.
Tracking someone? Simple.
Helping, and protecting a Vampire slayer . . . . Bloody hard work!
Thirteen years ago, Brendan Daniels made a deal with a psychic. In exchange for information on the whereabouts of a Rogue Werewolf, he promised to help and protect Sofia's granddaughter. Unfortunately, he had no idea what he was letting himself, or his Pack, in for.
Nothing about Heather is simple, from her weird dietary needs to her life’s mission. The girl can handle herself, but the promise to protect her soon becomes a need, and one he can't fully understand.
Vampire Slayer.
Born Infected.
Addicted to blood . . . but not by choice.
Heather Ryan is the current Slayer in a long family line. Like all before her, she has spent her life searching for her ancestor, Marko Pavel, the Vampire her family has sworn to kill. If that isn't complicated enough, she is also a born "Infected", and to keep her from becoming insane or giving in to her darker side, she is on a very strict diet.
Now that her Grandmother Sofia has passed, it is up to Heather to take the family legacy into her own hands. Or at least, it would have been...if her Grandmother hadn't sent a Werewolf to help her.
What is the irritating Brendan supposed to help her with? Sofia never told either of them. Luckily, it doesn't take long for Heather and Brendan to find out that the Vampires have big plans, and that the Leeches have waited a long time for them both.

Lights spluttered above me, fighting with some relentless attempt to come back on, even though the battle appeared hopeless.
It is hopeless. I’m trapped.
Fresh waves of pain rippled around my skull and down my spine as I fought to see everything around me, but thick grey smoke flooded the corridors. It crawled down my throat; the taste and feel of ash coated my tongue, making me gag. The need to cough kept grabbing me while ash blocked my nose and stung my watering eyes. My head throbbed, pressure in my skull tightened, as I fought hard to keep my eyes open.
There has to be a way out.
My eyesight had clouded from the smoke; my nostrils burned with it.
The awareness under my skin blazed as hot as the fire that currently threatened to bring the entire structure down on my head, but I had to walk down here; every impulse in my body forced me forward. I had no idea what I hoped to find, but I knew in my gut that I could get out.
My right hand hit the uneven wall before me; my heart sank as I stood before the dead end.
My lungs burned as the smoke continued to consume my body.
I wasn’t supposed to die down here.

Favorite Lines “It is vital that you do not change the path before you. I have told you, many times, that certain events must happen in a person’s life for a reason, always for a reason. The events that will unfold before you...they must happen, Heather. They have to.”

“You of all people know how hard it is to trust. Especially when the world we live in is not the one humans are aware of. Trust must be earned, and the way to earn it is to prove you deserve it.”

“You have to stop doing, you know, human stuff,” I called. “It is seriously creepy coming from a wolf.”

“We’ll be all right. Somehow, we will. Trust it is the truth.”

“Trust me just this once, Slayer. I am going to get you out of here.”

“Let the past go, Bren, or it will ruin your future.”

“Italy is another Pack’s territory. You’re a guest; make sure that you are a polite one.” God, I hope he told Heather that.”

Oh yes it's official I love Blood Series!
In book 1 I adored Brandon I'm so glad this book was about him. Heather is a skater with one mission KILL MARKO. Her family has been searching for him for generations. So when she wakes up and smells wet dog and finds this gorgeous man in her kitchen that her Grandma Sophie sent to protect her. She's livid but Brandon is just the kinda guy who can worm his way right next to you. This book reveals a much larger plot and I can't wait to see what comes next!

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review (RBTL)

FIVE SLAYER FAIRIES
Judge a Book by its Cover…

One should never really judge a book by its cover, because even if the outside doesn't look so great, inside could be the most amazing story you have ever read in your life. And then on the other hand, I have heard on a few occasions how a book cover has no relation to the story itself.
Now, August 25th marked the re-release of my Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance series titled, the Blood Series. Yes, both books were previously published in 2011 and 2012, but when my publisher shut down in 2013, well, I knew right away that I would self-publish this series from these two books onward. I also knew right away that I wanted my book covers to be red.
Why red? Has it got something to do with it being called the Blood Series?
Yes, that is absolutely the reason I wanted them to be red. It may sound stupid, but that's what I wanted and it was the one thing I was adamant about to the fabulous and very talented Mina Carter who yes, designed these gorgeous covers that I love so much.
The Series is titled Blood for the two obvious reasons; it features Vampires and Werewolves and naturally, blood drinking and horrific, bloody fights spring to mind when we think of these two creatures. But there is another reason for the obvious series title and it is scientific. I'm not going to go into too much detail, because it will spoil Cranberry Blood, but not only is there blood drinking and spilling featured in this series, there is also blood dilution, experimentations, altered DNA and so forth. So, red for the covers was a definite.
When I hosted the cover reveal for She-Wolf (Blood Series Prequel) and Cranberry Blood (Blood Series: Book One) back in May, one of my readers actually stated that these were, "unusual covers for a UF/Paranormal series."
I suppose they are, but I have to say Mina has managed to catch the essence of not only the series, but both the stories, and she has only seen the blurbs for both. Perhaps I'm good at details, or perhaps she is just that fabulous and reads between the lines; I'm going with the latter.

Cranberry Blood is the first book in the series and it falls under being more of an Urban Fantasy, whereas She-Wolf (Blood Series Prequel) is more of an erotic paranormal romance. There are romantic elements in the book, but romance isn't the focus. This is Heather Ryan's book; well, the first installment in her ongoing story as she will be the heroine for the next couple of novels, and well, until her story is over and therefore the main arc of the series if complete.
Heather is the most recent in a long line of Vampire slayers, and she has this crazy legacy on her shoulders, which she has to uphold because that is what she has been trained for. So, she has a crazy life to start off with, but to make matters worse she is also an Infected.
(If a Vampire were to bite a human, but not drain and therefore kill them, they pass on the vampyrric virus, which infects the victim and causes their body to mutate. It is the first stage of creating a Vampire, and even though Infecteds aren't Vampires, the side effect of the mutation is bloodlust. So they are more dangerous than Vampires because they can't control themselves.)
The only difference being that Heather's mother was the one who was infected, but she was pregnant with Heather at the time. So, the mutation altered her DNA and Heather was a born Infected.
Have I lost you? Sorry. It's easier to follow in the book, trust me.
Basically, not only does she kill Vampires, but she has to drink blood herself in order to survive, but her mother and grandmother wouldn't feed it her pure when she was a baby/child. So they diluted animal's blood with Cranberry Juice - hence the title - and she has basically coped by drinking that sickly substance for the last twenty-one years of her life.
So Cranberry Blood is Heather's medicine and life line to humanity. And that is why we have one lone female on the cover. This is her story. The arc kicks off with her and this legacy she must fulfill. Physically the cover model matches Heather's description.  I love that she is looking over her shoulder, because it shows vulnerability as well as caution. Vampires want to kill her. She constantly has to look over her shoulder and be careful. She is beautiful, but there is a hardness to her; calculation in her eyes.
At the bottom of the book you will see the silhouette of buildings, you may actually recognize the pointy tower at the right side; it's Big Ben. Half of the story is set in London; that's where Heather lives and hunts. Plus, the series is mainly set in the UK, although we will be travelling to Italy for book two. ;)
And then top, left hand side we have a moon; a clear indication that Werewolves still play a part in the story, which they do. Brendan Daniels is the hero of this book and the next few to follow. He is one of the Werewolves we are introduced to in She-Wolf. Thirteen years prior in exchange for information he made a deal with Heather's grandmother to come protect and help her once her grandmother passed away. All the events that unfold before them lead them right back up to Scotland and to the Pack, which is why there are silhouettes of trees in front of the moon, because yes, more action takes place in the forest.
So, should you judge this book by its cover?
I think you can, and I think if you were to look at the book cover for She-Wolf (Blood Series Prequel) you would know right away that it is a Werewolf erotic romance. So yes, I think it is safe to say that what you see is what you get. The series itself is full of dark humor, action, romance, heartfelt moments, and sex. Blood is an actual topic throughout, not simply the evidence of fights and feedings.
I don't know if as an author I have managed to give something new in regards to this genre and these creatures, but I'd like to think that at the very least I have given them a humorous and possibly interesting twist, and one that you will all enjoy. : )
