No one knows the secrets he keeps.
No one knows the secrets he keeps.
No one knows of the worlds that exist right alongside ours.
Benton is human, but he walks the line between two worlds:
the mundane and the supernatural; the commonplace and the extraordinary. As a
rare Fire Elemental Warlock, he finds himself in trouble more often than he
cares to admit. It doesn’t help that his sister is a Faery Queen of the Summer
Seelie Court.
This is Benton’s story as he makes his way between the
mortal world and a world where magic reigns. Do you dare follow? Do you dare
see what lurks just beyond the edge of perception?

I nodded and flinched away from her gaze. So, I was mostly
impervious to Fey magic, but it sure made my skin crawl like a gazillion tiny
worms had decided to dig in and call it home. I fiddled with the frayed ends of
the woven quilt draping his thighs. I could still feel her eyes upon me, but
the crawling feeling faded as I breathed in slowly.
“You don’t have to use up any of your little faery tricks on
me, they don’t work so well.”
“Hmf!” Sary stalked away, not bothering to apologize as she
continued her tirade, right out the front door, letting the violent slam that
followed shake the entire apartment.
Apparently, Shade hadn’t told Sary about Ferdinand’s illegal
siphoning of magics. This would devastate her. I hoped she’d understand when
she found out her brother’s true nature. I pondered telling her myself, but
it’d already backfired in my face to question anything she was determined to
do.
I rubbed my chin, leaning back as I shoved the tray aside on
the large, creaky bed. I’d have to let her find out for herself. This was none
of my business, right? That didn’t mean I couldn’t go along with them for
protection. I may be human, but as even my mother told me once…I was an equal,
if not more powerful than a Faery. Shade had the best of both worlds, but I was
a power to match any Fey’s. Some weird balance of nature I guess. Still, I
could be of use on this mission, not just for Sary to find her brother, but to
find more of the missing Unseelie and Sluagh escapees I was sent to track and
dispose of. Besides, whatever was calling me to Chicago, this dire compulsion,
needed to be squelched.

Judge a Book by its
Cover…
I know this sounds shallow, but I
judge books by their covers all the time! Yes I’m a cover art addict,
especially since I make covers for my own books all the time. I love to check
out other covers in my genre and see what is trending and what is not and what
makes me shake my head with the hideousness of what’s out there. There’s tons
of beautiful work but there’s also a sea of covers that could use a little
oomph.
I do, however, try to be
open-minded and check out a book’s blurb before judging them completely on their
covers. I’ve seen some epic covers that look amazing! Then, the blurb kills it
for me. So having a killer blurb which isn’t overly long and grabs you with the
first couple sentences is a must have too!
Back on covers- I can’t tell you
how often I come across readers who wouldn’t have picked up a book if not for
the amazing cover art that drew their eyes to it. Skimping on covers as an
author is a huge no-no. You need to draw the audience and the best way to do
this is with stunning cover art. Even the covers we often see on Big Six books
with just font on them have an amazing arrangement and typography that captures
their audience with the greatest of ease. Don’t skimp on typography, it’s the
deal sealer.
I enjoyed making the cover for
History of Fire and it’s by far one of my favorites of all my books. I got to
work with the talented photographer, Christopher
John of CJC Photography,
who did the photo-shoot to capture the essence of the main character in History
of Fire. He worked with an equally awesome model talent: Jona Frederick-Fritchie Light-Cali.
They were both amazing and gave me exactly what I needed to bring Benton to
life in the flesh for the cover in all his Elemental Fire magic.
Here’s some cover artists I
highly recommend:
