Angels with Attitude - Author Interview
What would you have done differently if you were the main character of your book? My character was kicked out of the coven that she grew up in. She was wrongly accused of something she didn't do, and as a result, she was forced out onto the street at a young age. She was recruited by the kingpin of crime syndicate and was forced to so some very nasty things. I think I would've chosen her path. I would’ve waitressed, cleaned toilets. I don’t think I’d survive as a criminal. I just don't have it in me. lol
What was your inspiration behind this book? Well many years ago I read an article in the newspaper about a serial killer from England who was young and handsome, a PhD student with his whole life ahead of him, but he was a sociopath. It was sort of a Jack the Ripper with a twist kind of story. I knew I had to write a book about it and use the heinousness of his crimes as the back drop, but in a fictionalized world. I was also inspired by the Harry Potter series and read all the fanfiction.
Why did you become a writer? I had all these stories floating around in my head. It's a yearning really in the soul that’s always there.
Do you have a favorite author or authors? So many, Kresley Cole, Emma Chase, Christina Lauren, Alice Clayton to name a few. She just accepted my friend request and I about fell over!
Do you like to write your books in a continuing series? Yes. This is my first book and my first series. I'm working on book two about a medium who's forced to vanquish a vengeful spirit from a haunted inn, and in the process, she falls for the sexy inn keeper!
If you could date any character from any book, who would it be and why? Hmm, that's a tough one. I would date Gideon Cross, that man is sex on a stick. I mean, he's too sexy to be real. God bless Sylvia Day! He’s gorgeous super-hot and scary smart. I would also love to date Christian Grey, and Bennett Ryan from Beautiful Bastard. I found him totally captivating in his arrogance, and very sexy. I also loved Finn from Dirty Rowdy Thing. He’s tall, masculine and knows how to please a woman, not to mention funny! And last but not least, I would fall madly in love with Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice. He does it for me.
What kinds of books do you like to read in your spare time? I love everything romance, paranormal, contemporary, and erotic of course. I love to read all genres though!
As a reader and writer I think it is important to get to know your fans and make a connection with them as an author who takes the extra step to hear what their fans think and want in their continued writing is continued success and key to selling more books. Do you agree with that? Omg yes! I totally agree. I hope I have fans. Lol. The book just came out in November, so I think I have a few at this point. I’m totally humbled and grateful for the fantastic feedback and some great reviews on Amazon that I’ve gotten so far. But I need more! . I’ve also been asked to speak at two book groups so that’s exciting! I always say to readers, please give me your honest feedback. I want to be a great writer and keep improving my craft and give the fans what they want!
Do you cry when writing sad scenes? I do. I’m a complete mush. I cry at commercials. You’re asking the wrong one. I’m a total sap.
Did you have a Cover Designer? Yes her name is Alysse. She’s the cover designer from Ellora’s Cave and she’s fantastic. I love her!
Who is your fictional boyfriend or girlfriend crush? In addition to the ones I’ve mentioned? lol. I have a crush on every one of the male heroes in Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark series. These men are all pure Alpha with a capitol A. They’re hot, sexy, heroes that are extremely complex. I love every one of them, even Lothaire. He’s beyond sexy, arrogant and crazy, but so compelling you can’t help but fall for him.
If you were able to dine and have a one on one with your favorite writer/author who would it be? Ernest Hemingway, Edgar Allen Poe, Jane Austin, Shakespeare. Then I would pick some contemporaries, like Alice Clayton, Emma Chase, and Sylvia Day. Those ladies look like they'd be fun to hang with too! I recently got to hang out with the lovely and talented Jennifer Probst at this past October’s NJRW conference. We’d met a few times before and have some mutual friends. We had cocktails together and my critique partner and I went to her workshop. I was blown away by her wit, and her humor. She’s also exceptionally kind, not to mention super real and grounded. Does that sound like a girl crush? lol She’s’ just such a doll! I was in awe and so grateful to have shared an evening with her.
Do just re-read your favorite books? Yes all the time. I hope people will reread my books I can only hope and pray they do.
Do you ever get in a reading slump like your readers do? I do. I like to see what’s fresh out there. I’m doing a lot of swapping with other authors right now so my reading list is overflowing at the moment. I also have about 5 books loaded on my Nook that I haven’t gotten to. So I’m not in a slump at the moment! It’s great!
What is the funniest book you ever read? Without a doubt Tangled by Emma Chase. That book was so funny I was reading it and laughing hysterically out loud. She has a gift for humor.

- What inspired you to write? I was greatly inspired by JK Rowling. I read all the books in the Harry Potter series like four times and then started reading the fanfiction until I figured it was time to start creating my own stories. Who knew people would actually want to read them. lol
- When or at what age did you know you wanted to be a writer? I didn’t start writing seriously until I was an adult, but I took a journalism class in HS and my teacher said my writing was too flowery and romantic for news. I also took some journalism classes in college and wrote for the school paper.
- What is the earliest age you remember reading your first book? I would say four maybe. I always had a book with me. I read a lot in my room to get away from the chaos of my family lol.
- What genre of books do you enjoy reading? I love every genre really! I write paranormal so of course I read that so much in that genre, but I also love contemporary. All the Christina Lauren books are so fantastic!
5. What is your favorite book? I have too many to name. But I loved Kiss of the Demon King by Kresley Cole. I’ve read it many times. The writing is so sharp and the love scenes are incredibly sensual. I also loved the Crossfire Series by Sylvia Day. All three books were fantastic! The characters are incredibly flawed and their feelings for each other are so raw and honest. That’s what I love about romance. You can actually feel yourself falling in love like the characters do. I’ve also read every Harry Potter book at least four times, maybe more. I can get lost for days in those books.
6. You know I think we all have a favorite author. Who is your favorite author and why? I have so many. Kresley Cole, Emma Chase, Sylvia Day, Alice Clayton, (she just accepted my FB friend request and I nearly fell over.)Christina Lauren, JK Rowling. I could list many more.
6. If you could travel back in time here on earth to any place or time. Where would you go and why? That’s a tough one. I would love to go back to Edwardian England and be a lady like Mary on Downton Abbey. I would get so caught up in the pomp and ceremony of the period, the gloves, the balls, the teas. I could also see myself as a flapper from the twenties like Sugar in Some like it Hot. I think being a hippy in the seventies and going to Woodstock would’ve been amazing as well.
- When writing a book do you find that writing comes easy for you or is it a difficult task? It’s always a challenge. But it gets easier the more you write and spend time in front of the keyboard. I also find that when I’m stuck if I simply binge read other authors it helps pull me out of whatever funk I’m in!
- Do you have any little fuzzy friends? Like a dog or a cat? Or any pets?I have an adorable golden retriever named Buddy. I often post pics of him on FB. He's my love and the only one in the family that doesn’t talk back.
- What is your "to die for", favorite food/foods to eat? I love sushi, salmon and chocolate soufflé.
10. Do you have any advice for anyone that would like to be an author?I would say join a critique group, that’s number one. You’re responsible for other peoples work and they are responsible for yours and it forces you to create deadlines. It’s too easy to put your writing on the back burner when you’re not published. Make writing a priority. I would also say enter contests, despite the fact that the judging can be brutal. It’s also very subjective, having said that, it’s still worth the effort. I’ve gotten great feedback and edited and rewrote my novel from the wonderful suggestions I’ve gotten. I also learned to be a better writer from each contest entry, striving and pushing myself to improve. Also, I would recommend going to conferences, networking with other writers, and putting yourself out there as much as possible. No one understands the writing struggle like other writers. Take classes, online or through your local writing chapter and read, read, and not just fiction, but books on how to write and learn something new every day!
Thank you so much for having me, Nancy!
