Before He Was a Secret By Becky Wicks

Before He Was A Secret by Becky Wicks
(Starstruck #3 - can be read as a stand-alone)
Publication date: Feb 24 2015
Genres: New Adult, Romance

Synopsis:
Another standalone Starstruck romance from the HarperCollins author who brought you Amazon #1 bestseller Before He Was Famous and Before He Was Gone
“What if we can’t choose
Every battle we win and lose
What if we decided years before, to live this life, to fight these wars
And all the dreams we ever thought were ours
Were written in the stars”
Waiting tables isn’t exactly what singer/songwriter Stephanie has in mind for her move to Nashville, but memories of the past and a case of writer’s block mean inspiration isn’t coming easy. When brooding pianist Conor Judge opens his mouth in a smoky bar he proves music can heal, and even help you re-write your story, but a history of his own means the one thing he starts to want most is always just out of reach. Stephanie.
Enter Travis Flynn – an upcoming star who won’t take no for an answer, and a record label intent on helping Stephanie shine, without Conor. As fame comes knocking as hard as the ghosts of their pasts, it soon becomes clear that no matter how hard you might fall in love, having the perfect songs doesn’t always mean perfect harmony.

Becky Wicks lives in Bali and scribbles books, and she’s mostly powered by coffee. Her first book in the Starstruck Series, Before He Was Famous recently reached #1 in Amazon’s Coming of Age and New Adult & College categories, and her three travel books, published by HarperCollins are online to make feet nice and itchy. Do you ever get writer’s block? If so, how do you get through it?
Sometimes, but it's more like I'm not always sure how my character would react to certain things, rather than me getting stuck for ideas. I tend to plan most of a book out before I start writing - not rigidly - there's always room for twists and turns, but it helps beat writer's block if you know from the start where your characters need to be, what they need to learn, and how they're going to get there! Sometimes though, they do surprise me!
Do you come up with the cover or does someone else do it?
I have a brilliant cover designer called Jeanine Henning. I found her quite randomly on Twitter and she really has that quirk about her and a knack for just 'getting' a book's intention. She puts that across in her designs perfectly - I couldn't be happier with all three of the Starstruck novels, all designed by Jeanine. What do you think?
What book if any would you want to be made into a movie?
Funny you should ask that as my friend, the author Sarah Alderson is in the process of turning her Y/A novel Hunting Lila into a movie. I can't say much more about that but it's super exciting, and also so inspiring! It's my dream to have a book turned into a movie. I think I'd pick my first one, Before He Was Famous, if only 'cause it's closest to my heart!
Who would you want to play the hero/heroine?
I think Selena Gomez would play Chloe, and Zach Efron would be Noah, for sure. And Russell Brand would definitely play Denzel, the crazy British manager from HotFlush!
Everyone uses computers, tablets, phones and no one uses handwritten form or typewriters, what do you prefer to use?
I'm a MacBook Air girl, all the way! I always record random voice notes to myself too, into my iPhone. Sometimes I can't even understand what the hell I mean when I play them back but it's a good way to make notes and also, for making sure no inspirational strike goes un-noted.
Is there a ritual you do every time, before you begin your book?
I make a lot of notes in a program called Scrivener. This one lets writers list all their research material in a bunch of different documents, all within one awesome program, so nothing gets lost. You can write your manuscript in that too, but I tend to just keep my notes in it and write on Word. I prefer it! Aside from that I do a LOT of research before I start writing anything, especially on locations. For Before He Was A Secret, I think I walked the entire length of Nashville and down all the streets on Google Maps, looked at every website for every bar and music club, before writing a word! I wanted to make it seem as authentic as possible - that's something I try to do for all my books. It's important to be able to imagine yourself there because if you can't as a writer, how will your readers?

What are your current projects?
I've just finished writing a novel called Day Of The Wave, which is based around the Boxing Day tsunami and the lives of a guy and a girl who were separated during that time, and reunited ten years later. It might be the most exciting book I've ever written and I'm itching to get it out there soon!
What do you do when you finish your book and turn it in to the editor?
Have a massive glass of wine. Cheers! Then I set about making sure it's going to be marketed properly, because that is more work than writing, trust me! That's where people like your lovely self come in, so thanks for being part of this blog tour! xxx
