Seducing Adam By LizAnn Carson

Title: Seducing Adam
Author: LizAnn Carson
Genre: Contemporary Romance
His plans could devastate her island.
But the island had other plans for him.
Stacie Halloran was perfectly content running her bed and breakfast in Windon Harbor, on Malaspina Island off the Pacific coast of Canada. Or maybe not perfectly content, since there was a decided shortage of eligible men of a certain age on Malaspina.
But it was home, and it was a living.
Then the hot-shot executive from the timber company that owned Nathan’s Forest turned up. Adam Fraser’s presence had the whole island talking – and watching his every move. Because there was only one reason for him to be on their island: his company planned to cut down their forest. Adam was the Enemy, sent to make nice with the natives.
Talk about the last thing Stacie needed. The Enemy was under her roof, and with his big-city vibes he was a fish out of water in tiny Windon Harbor. Then, wouldn’t you know? He had to go and kiss her right there in the guest lounge. Definitely the last thing she needed. Because whatever she thought about that kiss – and she thought plenty – a battle was looming, and they were on opposite sides.
The lines were drawn. But for Adam, it all came down to a brown-eyed bed-and-breakfast owner and an old house on a hill. Because once Malaspina Island wove its spell, all bets were off.

Seducing Adam

In which hostilities flare in the B&B’s breakfast room, and Stacie and Adam (“Two”) realize they have a problem

His eyes narrowed. “You’re the hottest woman I've met in a long time and every time I see you you’re dressed in that gray outfit and vacuuming … There’s no way you’d be on your own in any place that actually had a countable population.”
“Did I say I’m on my own?”
“Oh.”
“Not having a resident male doesn’t mean no male at all, you know.”
“So there’s a guy.”
An outright lie might be going too far. “Well, no. But there might have been.”
“And when you break up with someone, I suppose it’s all very civilized.” He sighed, shoved his empty plate away, and swallowed down the last of his coffee.
“Yes. We’re big on civilized behavior. Maybe you don’t practice civilization in Toronto, but here it’s sort of a given.” Now that was an outright lie, passions could get out of hand on Malaspina Island as easily as anywhere else, but Stacie was enjoying pushing this pompous man’s buttons. Did he really think he could waltz in here – pun intended – and call her hot and get away with it? When he paid her to be nice to him and serve his breakfast?
Foreboding. Two wasn’t the only one hanging on to an attitude.
Ah. She’d got to him. The anger was back. He slammed down the coffee cup. “Later.”
“Much, much later.” She gave him her sweetest smile.
They both stood and they both turned to the door. Where they collided. When they simultaneously turned to glower, their eyes met.
And locked.
She felt it all the way to her toes. But with a serious contraction about half way down.
“Oh, no.”
“Bloody hell.”
They’d spoken at the same time. And simultaneously broke the eye lock. He looked as startled as she felt. “That didn’t happen,” she said.
“Absolutely not.” Then, “Why is it an insult if I say you’re hot? It’s true.”
“It’s the relationship thing. You pay me, so it’s inappropriate. Even if you didn’t pay me it would be inappropriate. You don’t even know me.”
“Maybe inappropriate. But not unheard of,” he stated. The startled look had faded, replaced by his usual disapproval. But then he grabbed her upper arms, pulled her to him, and she had a brief moment for a thought – hey, wait a minute – before her mind seized up like misaligned gears, because he planted a fast, hard, and poorly executed kiss on most of her mouth. Then he said, succinctly, “Damn,” and left, storming up the stairs.
It’s inappropriate, she thought as she stood there, stunned, because I say it is. Because you just made me realize that you’re the one who’s hot, and if Katherine Sorenson’s really ever had her hands on your body, I could happily murder her in a jealous rage. If she hadn’t conveniently left.
Stacie, you have a little problem here ...

Author Bio

I write in Victoria, British Columbia, a smallish city that's large enough to have all modern conveniences, but not so large as to have hours-long traffic jams or heavy duty pollution. I can follow a trail to my local supermarket, or be downtown by bus in twenty minutes.

I write contemporary romance fiction. My novels are more “heartwarming” than “erotic”. I’d rather convey (and read!) a love scene through a raised eyebrow (remember Lauren Bacall looking at Humphrey Bogart?), visceral response, and emotion.

Besides writing, I enjoy a variety of crafts, these days including beading (yes, with those teeny beads you need a magnifying glass to see) and collage. I like weight training and yoga, although my knees are acting up these days. I walk with my husband a lot.

My personal motto: in all things, beauty. Whether it’s in writing, craft, relationships, or simply appreciating all we’re given, I try to see the world through this lens.
