Romancing Brimstone

About the Book
Title: Romancing Brimstone
Author: Brit McGinnis
Genre: Supernatural Romance
Things aren't going well for Mika. Engaged to a man she doesn't love and facing a future she has no interest in, she's lost and alone. She's attending the funeral of the only person who ever truly understood her (in the company of her overbearing mother and fussy fiancé, no less!) when she meets the man who will change her life forever.

Except, well... he's not a man. He's the Devil. The real-life Devil.

Scary, right? But it turns out the Devil has a choice for Mika. But it's not an ordinary choice: Become Satan's bride and rule in Hell amongst the demons and lost souls, or marry Nick and remain in the world of humans. Forget love. This is a chance for the freshest start of all.

Brit McGinnis' intriguing supernatural romance Romancing Brimstone upends everything you may have wondered about love, commitment, and the world beyond life and death. Mika's not your average runaway bride. She's ready for a change of scenery, and Satan himself may be the one to change her heart.

Describe your books in 3 words? Sweetly imperfect romance.

If you could be any character from one of your books who would it be? I'd be Florence Ryckert from my upcoming book Smugglers. She has it so together and knows exactly who she is. I love her.
What is your greatest fear about being an author/publishing your book(s)? My greatest fear is that no one will ever care to read what I write. I don't mind if people dislike my work! I think it was Roald Dahl that said even someone who hates what you write has taken the time to read it.
Would the 10 year-old version of yourself kick your butt or praise you for what you've accomplished in life? This is really tough. I think she'd wonder why I wasn't living in New York as a newspaper reporter, but would understand why I didn't choose that. I think she'd be happy I finally switched to writing books!
What do you do when you finish your book and turn it in to the editor? I breathe a sigh of relief and go on to the next book. Which, knowing me, I have already plotted out halfway in my head.
What is your favorite genre and why? I love a good memoir, especially when they're arranged in essay form.
What is one thing that would surprise us to know about you? Every single book I write has an official playlist. They're all on Youtube!
Was there an author who inspired you to write? When I was very young, it was Juliet Marillier. Such a prolific author and a fantastic fantasy world. As I grew older, I drew inspiration (creatively and professionally) from Anne Rice and Elizabeth Gilbert.
How did you come up with the characters in your books? A story itself often starts with the characters. I'll see a person or a character from some other work, and wonder what happened to them. Or more often, a character will come to me and just won't leave me alone. So I'll put them in something.
Do you prefer to write alone or do you like to collaborate with other authors? I prefer to work alone for most projects, but I'm never opposed to working with people if I'm asked.
Everyone uses computers, tablets, phones and no one uses handwritten form or typewriters, what do you prefer to use? I usually write on my laptop, but I've often downloaded a writing app of some kind and worked on certain books in bed. That's the best.
Is there a ritual you do before you begin your book? I tell only my book club friends explicitly about what I'm writing, but in the three weeks leading up to writing the book I'll ask people questions in the voice of my characters. Like once when I was writing a character who was hiding the fact that she was wealthy, I asked my friends how they would react if someone close to them told them they had more money than expected. It always helps when a book is grounded in reality.
What was your greatest moment since publishing? The best moment was actually after Romancing Brimstone, when I was making my editorial calendar. Writing out "If they liked RomBrin, they'll like..." and actually having things of mine to write in. I loved being able to give more to everyone!
When writing your characters, do you picture someone specific that you take their features from (eg. actor/actresses) or do you pull looks from the air? I'll often stick parts of real people onto characters. Mika from Romancing Brimstone is very influenced by Zooey Deschanel, and Satan strongly resembles Chris Hardwick. But neither one of them look exactly like their real-world counterparts.
