Clarissa could never have foreseen the magic a simple hatter could bring to her life.

As queen of Wonderland, Clarissa should have been secure in her position, but Alice sought to change all that. A clause in the dead king's will only serves to spur on their childhood rivalry. Alice will stop at nothing to take the throne for herself.  The best laid plans can go awry though and it's only a matter of time until the true queen of Wonderland will be crowned for good.

Excerpt
"Who are you?"
"I'm just a simple hatter, miss. Newly arrived here to ply my trade at court."
"Interesting. Well, don't let me keep you..."
At her dismissive tone, the hatter raised his eyes and stared at her for a moment. "Did anyone ever tell you that you're awfully bossy? I'm sure the queen herself isn't as bossy as you!"
"Not lately, no, and since you are new here, you may want to wait until you meet the queen to decide what she's like." Stepping to one side on the path, she cocked her head at the exit. "I believe you were just leaving?"
Slowly he walked toward her, closing the distance between them until he towered over her. Realizing that it might not be safe to be alone with this stranger, she was tempted to take a step backward, but one look at the expression on his face showed that he was expecting her to be intimidated. Resolutely she stood her ground. Staring defiantly up at him, she crossed her arms defensively across her chest.
"Am I in your way?"
"Not at all." And with that he dropped his lips to hers. The kiss was gentle at first—their mouths the only point of contact between them—but within moments, his tongue had teased her lips apart and his hands were buried in her hair, drawing her nearer. Of their own volition, her hands explored the planes of his chest through the cotton shirt he wore, and her fingers memorized every detail.
Without warning he pulled away, his breathing ragged. His gaze bore into hers and she felt as if he were reading every thought that flashed across her mind. Her heart fluttered like a trapped butterfly in her chest—the sound so loud that she felt sure he must be able to hear it. With extraordinary gentleness, he ran the back of his hand slowly down her cheek before stepping quietly past her and leaving the garden.

Questions for Authors

How did you come up with the characters in your books?
My publisher had a call for short stories with an Alice in Wonderland theme and while I was already working on other projects, I couldn't resist trying my hand at reimagining these characters.
What are your current projects?
I'm currently working on several projects which helps when I hit a roadblock on one of them.
Do you see writing as a career?
At present it's not realistic to think of writing as a career, however, my hope is that one day it will be something that will pay the bills so that I can indulge in my passion for disappearing into new worlds.
What kind of research do you do for your books?
Obviously I do a lot of online research and when that doesn't answer all the questions I have, I contact people and ask. One of my current projects takes place in a firehouse and so I've been in contact with a Fire Chief in the States who has been very generous about answering silly questions and helping me out.
What is the hardest part of writing your book?
I think the hardest part for me is when characters refuse to do what I want them to do and make me conform to their wishes instead J Of course, there's also the editing to get through and that can be painful sometimes.
What is your favorite Genre and why?
This is a bit like asking someone to pick a favourite child! I read romance (obviously), historical fiction, YA, sci-fi and fantasy. I'm not a big fan of horror or thrillers, but I'm generally willing to try anything once.
Do you ever get writer’s block? If so, how do you get through it?
I've had moments where my voices have definitely gone off in a huff and refused to talk to me, but it's one of the reasons I decided to work on multiple stories. That way, if one set of characters gets grumpy, then I can go visit with others…
When you are reading a book, who is your favorite author?
I have two authors that I know I will enjoy regardless of what they've written and they are Philippa Gregory and Jodi Picoult and I own almost everything they've ever published. Of course, the list of authors that I love is too long to list!
Do you come up with the cover or does someone else do it?
Usually I have an idea of what I would like to have as a cover image, but let the artists do their thing. With this release, I was self-publishing and so I got to experience the fun (and frustration) of hunting down the perfect image and getting the cover done.
What book if any would you want to be made into a movie?
I read a book called "Timeless Night" by Torie James and I have to confess that I would LOVE to see her characters brought to life on the big screen!
Everyone uses computers, tablets, phones and no one uses handwritten form or typewriters, what do you prefer to use?
One of my fellow authors uses typewriters fairly often and I would certainly consider it for the connection you feel between the keys and the words and the paper.  I do prefer to use my computer because I can save and back up my work, but I also love using notebooks when I need to get a break from technology.
What do you do when you finish your book and turn it in to the editor?
Chocolate. Lots of chocolate J
