Blood Gold Revenge

About the Book
Title: Blood Gold Revenge
Author: Dave Wright
Genre: Thriller
“A lot of things have happened up this way over the years. There’s got to be at least six missing person’s that I have heard of.”
There is gold in the vastness of the Australian outback, and a special breed of men who prospect for it. Tim is bush-hardened and skilled; the love for this harsh country comes naturally. His prospecting partner John shares Tim’s love of the freedom, but times have changed. A new breed of prospector has reason to appreciate the desolate isolation of the bush — but it is not gold he is after. The country’s biggest meth lab is doing well, and its owner, Mr C. does not appreciate passers-by.
The cattle on the Hatchet River Station homestead have not been mustered for the past ten years. The brutish Maxine, her husband Scrubber, and her brother Price have agreed to run interference for Mr C.; after all, they have always enjoyed killing the odd lone prospector when they had the chance.
But they make a mistake, and the solitary prospector they pick off one day was not alone as they thought. There are witnesses to the crime this time, and they want justice for their friend. Tired of the Hatchet River trio’s murdering ways, intimidation and threats, and suspecting local police corruption, Tim, Jack and Sam call in the state authorities.
A massive search begins; the hunters become the hunted, the innocent pay for the crimes of the guilty and the good guys don’t always win. But the net does tighten. The well-camouflaged drug lab explode in flames and the blood of many, good and bad, soak into the parched land in a spectacular finale. It is not the authorities who bring justice to Hatchet River, however, but a band of indomitable bushies, who have never learned to say die.

Excerpt
He drives forward, pulling up about 40 metres from the homestead. They both get out and Krisa yells out, “Hi how are you going? We are a bit lost.”
Price, seeing the sexy looking blonde, licks his lips and breaks into a stupid grin. Now standing near the homestead stairs, he waves them across. Axel turns before walking away from their van, pulling out the keys then, after pressing the central locking, slid them into his shorts pocket. Krisa looks at him and asks, “What are you doing?”
He shrugs, replying, “Just habit from home.”
Before they make their way to the homestead, Krisa stops to check her hair in the side mirror on the van; Axel, only 25 metres away from Price, waves the map around while Krisa starts walking towards the men. Price strolls over, lets two dogs off the chain, and mutters, “Get him.”
Not needing any more incentive, the first dog hits Axel in his hamstring, tearing out a large chunk of muscle and sinew. A deep growl comes from the dog that was now leaning back on its haunches, trying its best to topple his prey. Axel pivots at the hips, trying to grab hold of the dog by the head as the second dog latches onto his thigh muscle, shaking its head wildly. Axel lets out a grunt of grain, having been taken by surprise in the attack, spinning around in time to see a third dog launch itself in the air towards his head. Axel manages to brush the dog to one side in mid-flight then turns his attention to the dog that is locked onto his thigh muscle, belting it repeatedly in the head with his closed fist as the dog showed no signs of releasing its grip.
Krisa sees what is unfolding as she walks towards her boyfriend and screams in horror, yelling, “Run” to Axel, while taking her own advice and running back towards the van. The third dog that was thrown to one side came back with a vengeance, latching itself onto the Swede’s forearm. With three dogs now in tow, Axel turns, trying to make it back to the van. Price, enjoying the attack, releases another two dogs that were going off their heads at the smell of blood, also wanting a piece of the action. Taking off like guided missiles, they hit Axel from behind, bringing the large man to his knees. Now that their prey was on the ground, the first two dogs change position and go for the kill as they all start tearing him apart. The sound of bones getting crunched and flesh getting torn off the bone is sickening. Axel tries to yell but can only get a gurgled groan out as one dog tears his throat out. His shredded body starts convulsing as the dogs throw up dust dragging him around the yard.
