The Guicai Talisman

About the Book
Title: The Underground Chronicles of Babylonia Jones, PI: The Guicai Talisman
Author: A.M. Griffin
Genre: Urban Fantasy
What does a woman have to do to prove she belongs in the Undercity? Sure, I’m unclassed and only half paranormal, but that doesn’t mean I can’t solve cases. Since the established PI’s won’t acknowledge my right to a territory, I’m taking jobs from whoever will hire me, doing what I do best…proving myself to be a bad-ass problem solver. Which is how I find myself breaking into Zaid’s house, looking for a talisman my witch client says the very powerful vampire stole.
Now, I can make flowers grow, hear the wind’s whispers and talk to animals, but I don’t have the gift of seeing the future. If I did, I’d have known not to take this case. Because no matter the outcome, nothing good can come from messing with the Guicai Talisman, or it’s far too gorgeous guardian.

The next book in the series…

The Lycan Job
Being hired by the Alpha of the Lycan pack to solve the mystery of his son’s death could make my name as a PI in the Undercity—if it doesn’t get me killed first. Not only am I looking for a perp who obviously won’t hesitate to commit murder, but even before I get working on the problem I’m being threatened. That’s not going to stop me though. Neither is interference from Zaid, the hot Vampire who keeps popping up at the most inopportune times.
Yet this turns out to be anything but a straightforward case. I’m learning more about the workings of the Undercity than ever before, and what I’m finding out is pretty ugly. It’s making me question everything I thought I knew about the Houses, and what I’m missing by not being claimed by my father. But that may well be a question I won’t get a chance to ponder, because even tapping into every ability I possess might not be enough to help me survive the Lycan Job.

What is your character’s name? Does the character have a nickname?
Babylonia Deliah Jones. She has a very old school name. LOL. She goes by “Baby”.
What is your characters hair color? Eye color?
Brown curly hair with red highlights (thanks to a drug store dye job) and green eyes.
What kind of distinguishing facial features does your character have?
Facial? None. Her eyes stand out though because she’s African-American.
What is one strong memory that has stuck with your character from childhood? Why is it so powerful and lasting?
At five years old Baby’s mom took her to a clairvoyant she told her mom that she was half-human and half-paranormal. Baby has always known that she was different than the other kids (she can communicate with animals and has a connection to nature), but having the clairvoyant tell her that was a pivotal moment in her life. Her mother gave up her job to protect Baby and from there they’ve lived a life of poverty. Baby blames herself that her mom has given up so much to protect her.
What is your character's least favorite season?
Winter. She doesn’t like that nature is mainly dormant at that time and she’s unable to communicate with the trees and grass. She adores spring because that’s when everything wakes up and she feels the world is renewed.
What do you consider the most important event of your life so far?
Having my name added to the Undercity Directory with “P.I.” after it. No one can solicit for inclusion in the Undercity Directory. The forces that be add you. One day the book showed up on my doorstep and there was my name. I felt like I’d made it. That I’d been accepted.
Who has had the most influence on you?
My mom. She’s a strong woman. She had me and although she had a very successful life, she gave it up to protect me. She’s never treated me like a burden, but always loved and cherished me.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Getting my name in the Undercity Directory. Its both my most important life even and greatest achievement.
What is your greatest regret?
No regrets. Life is meant to be lived and I’m living it.
What is the most evil thing you have ever done?
Evil? Me? Never.
If you died or went missing, who would miss you?
Well, this is a sad question… My mom, my aunt. My best friend Melia and my ex-boyfriend Demarcus. I would also like to think the Zaid would miss me, but our relationship is too new for that yet.
Who is the person you despise the most, and why?
Miguel. He has one of the largest paranormal P.I. companies in the Undercity and he doesn’t like that I’m a contender. He thinks that I don’t belong and he’s basically blocking me from growing. I hate it and hate him. Hate’s a strong word, but its appropriate in this situation.
Do you tend to take on leadership roles in social situations?
Not really. My friends have been around a lot longer than I have. I’ve only been on this Earth for twenty something years and they’ve been around for hundreds of years. They usually take the reins and I follow.
Do you like interacting with large groups of people? Why or why not?
I hate large groups. They make me uncomfortable. I always feel like I’m a fish out of water, like I’m being judged for being different. I don’t want to fit in, but I also don’t like standing out. I do better on small gatherings.
Do you care what others think of you?
I would love to say no, that I’m above all of that, but really everything I do is in hopes that the people of the Undercity accept me as one of their own. Childish, I know.
If you could change one thing, what would it be, and why?
I would love to know who my father is and what paranormal House I belong too. I think that if I knew that and if his House stepped up to claim me, that a lot of troubles would be gone and that I’d finally be accepted into the Undercity.
