Warlock's Pawn
by
Tara Quan
0Delve into a fantastic world of political intrigue, magic, and a sword-wielding alpha male, in Book 1 of Tara Quan's new Captive Fates series. Who will survive as two women and one man fight for the right to rule in a world of blood and sand, where becoming a warlock's queen is a fatal curse? Inspired by The Arabian Nights, Warlock's Pawn is romantic suspense at its best.

Foreseeing the warlock's destiny, Alia saves the man her sister plotted to kill. He returns five years later to conquer her city. A pawn in a battle for desert waters, Alia resigns herself to a political marriage and an empty bed. But when Duncan demands more than just her name, she chances losing her heart along with her freedom.

Determined to reclaim her kingdom, Anora parlays her body to remain at Duncan's side. From within the Helicon court she spins her web, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. Alia is all that stands between her and the throne. Her sister must cease to breathe before the warlock's affection wanes.

A master tactician, Duncan has no qualms about making Anora his courtesan and Alia his queen. But it is Alia's eyes that haunt his dreams, and she soon becomes his only weakness. With the perils that haunt the Helicon court, caring for the fey is absolute folly. A warlock's love is a fatal curse, and Alia's death will be his undoing.

INTERVIEW

When did you know you wanted to be a writer?
December 4, 2002. It’s the day I put my first piece of fanfiction on the internet (Dramione Romance – as in Draco Malfoy and Hermione Granger)

Do you have a process?
Step 1 – Daydream
Step 2 – Doodle
Step 3 – Daydream some more
Step 4 – The characters begin to act out their story in my head
Step 5 – I start talking to myself
Step 6 – People begin to think I’m crazy
Step 7 – The characters finish their story, leaving a solid outline in my brain.
Step 8 – The characters, now bored, threaten to claw their way out
Step 9 – I give in and start typing
Step 10 – The real work begins
What's your favorite genre to write?
Romance – my stories are required to have a Happily Ever After. I’m particularly fond of paranormal and fantasy.
Who is your inspiration?
Nalini Singh. I dream of writing as well as she does.
What will you be working on next?
I’m currently polishing off my first contemporary romance. After I send it into the harsh cruel world of submissions, I plan on finishing the sequel to Tower in the Woods (I was more than half way through before I got waylaid).
Favorite paranormal read?
Archangel’s Consort by Nalini Singh
Favorite Author?
Nalini Singh. As you can tell, I’m a very devout fan.
If you could be any character from one of your books who would it be?
Oh wow, that’s a hard one. Alia from Warlock’s Pawn. She can see the future, fly, and knows how to defend herself.
Fast Fairy Questions
Apple or Windows? Apple. I use a Windows PC eight hours a day at my day-job. Turning on my Mac is how I know I’m home.
Cat or Dog? Cat. (Preferably the Changeling variety)
Pepsi or Coke? Ahh…Club Soda? I’m trying to cut sweetened drinks out of my diet. I fall off the wagon about once a week.
Facebook or Twitter? Twitter. I don’t have a lot of free time. The character limit forces me to be concise.
Summer or Winter? Summer. I spent four years in Boston. I don’t think I’ll willingly face a New England winter again.
Vampires or Werewolves? Vampires. My crush started with Anne Rice’s Lestat. My current favorite is Dmitri from Archangel’s Blade.
Amazon or Barnes and Noble? Amazon. I’m a clutz. My Kindle has survived several drops and falls, but my Nook died after only one. Fate settled that conundrum.
Funny or Serious? Serious. I have embarrassment empathy—if I’m forced to watch The Office, I spend most of the time covering my face in shame.
Print or E-book? E-book. I love print books, but since 2010 I’ve averaged one move per year. I’m doing it again this July, and there’s one more planned the July after that. Most of the print books I own are in storage.
Dream spot to visit? Back to D.C. Right now, I’d give anything to go to a Trader Joes.
